The last trend in Aeronautic needs new approach to design ballistic rescue system. Same time we need new methods in the field of testing this systems. This is the way I explain how our company Galaxy LTD cooperates with university Faculty of engineering in Brno choose new methods testing for speeds up to 400 km for ballistic parachutes design for aircraft up to 2000 kg, which responds with 5 seated planes Of these days.


Our first rescue system was developed on request of one customer in Texas, (Composite co.) already in 2001. System is functioning reliable for all manufactured Galaxy ballistic rescue systems category 3, 4, 5, and 6 up to speed 315 km/h. and weight to 750 kg. On the new improved safety system for Gyrocopters and Helicopters our company work intensively from mid 2011 where we continued with original project of two stage rescue system. Three years development has been confirmed with test on airport Milovice in cooperation with Gyrocopter co. Rosti Bauer and his workers. They prepared testing piece of original rotor head. Head was spun wish auxiliary motor to 280 RPM, so the test has simulated real flight. Whole rescue system is protected by patent.

By installation on Gyrocopter is possible install the system in 45-90 degree in longs axis off flight and in 0-20 degrees above straight flight.


bB such installation is the rescue system fully functional. In real use the aircraft is always falling faster than in level ejected parachute so carrying strap always slips between rotor blade without damage, because their angle of attack is 175-180 degrease in full strap and blade lengths which throws strap upwards. High lever safety is in design system GALAXY GRS ltd. Its advantage rests in speedy ejection of parachute in durable textile cylinder or bag, pulled by rocket motor by 1,4 ton energy. It guaranties safe opening in split off the second in small packet to distance 20-30 metres when parachute canopy starts to fill up immediately.

This way was done installation on helicopters Kompress from Italy, Belgian helicopter Dynali or Canadian Mosquito.

Unfortunately the saying of experience pilot of big helicopters goes: “ ye smaller the bigger danger” of some technical fault . By Gyrocopters the biggest danger by takeoff is strong descending wind or quick push down, where the rotor which is driven solely by the air stream looses RPM due to small angle of attack and the whole Gyrocopter becomes uncontrollable. Experience from small helicopters shows, that pilot has only 1,25 seconds to react,change blades angel and push down stick which shows not always realistic. It can arise situation where defect of main or small rotor makes impossible safe landing. Interesting video of system testing can be viewed:


UAV and Drons.


On the 9.07.2015 passed successful development test off rescue ballistic system Galaxy 10/150 with module DJI2GBS on hexacopter DJI S 900 weighing 8,4 kg. Weight was modified on standard “filming” weight. Test was done in cooperation Telink co Galaxy GRS,RCE Systems and technical university in Brno which is in partnership on serial production.

Unfortunately some Czech speculative companies copied our technology. Luckily our company Galaxy GRS ltd and university Brno has patented the system in EU and USA. By demanding development attention was put on reaching very high performance on design and manufacturing ballistic rescue system model GBS10. System Excels with number of parameters. Minimal mass rescue unit GBS10 in modification 30,50,150,350,350 speedy both in BASIC or durable version TOUGH for professionals.

This is as well lightest ballistic rescue system in the world in the category carrying capacity 5-65 kg.!! Speedy opening rescue parachute with pyrogenerator 1 second after activation. System allows range of use from 3-65 kg by using 4 sizes ballistic devise and 5 parachutes canopies. Common range of guarantied opening is from 0-300 km/h. Minimum height above the ground is from 5-8 m. The system allows multiple usage. Repeated use is possible immediately after activation in short time and is simple. Ballistic devise went through long time test by Aviation institute university Brno and Military testing. Parachutes were designed on principal results in aerodynamic tunnel in research institute Letnany with request maximum stability and optimal resistance.

Version Tough was certified after requirements RTCA/DO-160G guaranteeing functionality of the system in extreme conditions (temperature -40 to +70) rain and high dust condition. Manufacturing and service of the units is done direct by Galaxy GRS in Liberec, company with 30 years tradition in Parachute ballistic system.

VTO Planes

This new flaying machines, mostly designed for taxi in big cities or short trips. Mostly powered by electromotor and batteries. Their advantage is VTO and cruising speed is 250-300 km/h. Their weight varies from 750-1500 kg. For those vehicles was designed in development rescue system ROBUR M10. To confirm the concept the ROBUR M10 our co. designed pyro technique ballistic system for personal use with 120 kg basic weight.

It is possible to land from 0 speed and 10 m above the ground land as usual sky diver on the parachute. After development co. Galaxy ran series of tests with weight of 1,5 ton in the suspension frame where simulation bearing surfaces VTO vehicles from 0 height. The successful rescue starts at 15 m above ground. It is up to speed of 160 km/h. For slowing down from 280-300 km/h serves double brake system. The whole rescue process would be possible at any speed and 300 m altitude. Video can be seen

The largest currently produced parachute canopy for a weight of 2000 kg with an area of ​​360 m2 and speeds up to 380 km / h. This canopy is equipped with speed control 256 slots

New method of testing parachutes for high speed and high weight.

The speed limits are climbing since the first flight of Wright brothers and is happening right now in UL category. Today’s fastest UL is reaching 370 km/h. In this group is per example VL-3 at brother Kabrts manufactured by Belgian co. –JMB, or UL Shark and Stream. Same thinks applies for replicas 2nd WW fighter planes. Per example our JAK 3 has VNE 360 km/h and similar the Mustang from German manufactures.

Same times it is necessary to resolve rescue systems for aircrafts weighing up to 2000kg, because it is already planed for all new light business aircraft. Just to mention, tests described in our last 2 series in the Flaying revue reveal they are inadequate for those speeds.

Record from the drop laboratory for the evaluation of the drop parachute test.

In cooperation with Aviation institute uni Brno and there research team we arrived to new unique method where by parachute is thrown from Helicopter Mi-8 (tests are possible with weight up to 4000 kg from 1500 m above ground.) Develops speed proximately 400 km/h. The released (bomb) equipped with long pitot tube opens main testing parachute at requested speed by help our electronically controlled detonation GBS system. Small parachutes pulls out immediately “pull “ parachute and he the main testing canopy. The whole system is monitored during freefall by sending date signals to ground control station. The tests are now been done and are evaluated professionally by method used by American agencies NASA.

Anti spin parachutes (cork screw)

To close up, we can talk about development of anti spin parachutes. Anti spin parachutes serves to stabilised plane from uncontrollable regime to regain control. After that the parachute is ejected and plane caries on as normal. This is very important and necessary systems for all aircraft tests where the cork screw test is required by pilots. By UL planes is this test not on agenda therefore the spins are prohibited. In case the UL plane happened to get in to uncontrolled situation, installed ballistic rescue system can be used by pilot. Without is situation critical and most of the times fatal. The calculation and design anti cork screw parachutes is very demanding process. In the past only few manufactures in the world and US agency NASA, which published as well some data about and facts. It is important for this device to install a rocket motor, which will ensure that the rotation of the anti spin parachute does not become entangled in the tail of the aircraft, or thrown over the front wing, as has happened before.
