History
Dipl. Ing. Milan Bábovka
Zaměstnanci The Galaxy GRS was founded in 1989 formerly under the name Galaxy Sky Sports. It tied up to the successful activity of the Liberec Delta Club which had founded and had led Ing.Milan Bábovka with his friends, pioneers of hang gliding. From the year 1976 it belonged among the biggest clubs of hang glide flying in then Czechoslovakia. Rich sport contacts with foreign countries, especially Western Europe, started to show soon in the club activity which later culminated in its substantial influence on the LAA Czech Republic inception in 1989.
In the club were produced and constructed hang gliders that could be soon compared with abroad. Later there were produced and constructed another products such as hand deployed parachutes, powered rogallos and other equipment which were not possible to get in other way than to buy them dearly abroad.
The year 1984 is marked down as an outset of the GBS (Galaxy Ballistic System) inception and production of rescue ballistic systems. The system made use of energy from shot steel weight to pull the canopy by means of two cartridges. This system was later equipped with an effective muffler of recoil that was produced and gradually developed until 1994 when, with the arrival of the designer of catapult jet plane L-39 Albatros seats Ing.Jiří Matějíček to the firm, the old system was replaced by a new rocket system the GRS - Galaxy Rescue System, which with its advanced construction, up till now outstanding, was patented as a world invention under the No. of application 1859-94,No.:285-318.It was designated as the new generation of ballistic rescue parachute systems. Rich experience from previous years were utilised in the start of a new company and its products, which since the year 2000 after the integration of the Galaxy Sky Sports and the Galaxy - ing.Milan Bábovka operates as the Galaxy GRS s.r.o.
Currently the company specialises on rescue rocket parachute systems for Ultralights, Light sport aircraft, Experimental, sailplanes and pilot hand deployed parachutes . The former production and construction program of paragliders ( 2000 of them had been produced in 28 types and various sizes) had to make way for rescue systems due to preservation of special production capacity for technologically more exacting rescue devices. Up till now many pilots still fly with paragliders Galaxy Sky Sport, that made significant footprint in the history of parachute flying with a successful world patent under the application 1997- 104 No.:286 745.It is the Diagonal Girder of Flexible Wing featuring with a significant decrease of paraglider front resistance.
The rescue parachute systems GRS are mostly exported. They are recognised all over the world, including USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Asia. The biggest customer is Western Europe with its developed aviation industry. As an example we can name the biggest Italian and European factory Tecnam, with its successful types P-92 Echo, P-96 Golf and Sierra. As well, many new successful Czech aviation companies, who export in big amount their sport planes into all continents, are taking the GRS in ever increasing numbers.
In the year 2008 the company enters into its 24th year of existence. To this date have been produced over 2000 paragliders, 5000 parachute rocket rescue units GRS of all sizes and 1800 rescue hand deployed pilot parachutes.
The company strategy is simple. The company bet all on quality before quantity and on a team of experienced and technically advanced workers with minimal job-switching. All is devoted to quality, research and development. The company co-operates with the VÚPCH Semtín ( the Research institute of industrial chemistry), the Aero Vodochody, ČVÚT katedra letadel ( the Czech Technical University, aircraft institute), the Czech institute of arms and ammunition testing and with many fore design engineers. It is evidenced by world patents owned by the company. The GRS advantage is its ability to rescue in low altitudes as low as 30m above the ground for motor gliders. By heavier planes, achieving speeds around 300 km/h up to 350km/h, the rescue height in weights up to 1300 kg does not exceed 150 m above the ground, thanks to the newly developed parachute canopies of the series GRS 6 that excel in small dynamic impact into aircraft airframe at high speeds and quick opening in low heights and speeds over the ground.
These are patented under the No.: PUV 2007-18488 both in Europe and the USA.
The company owns an airfield with hangar for 10 aircraft, managing its own facility for service, development, research and pilot activity.
In passed years a development of the Emergency Spin Recovery parachute was completed. It is aimed for the new aircraft A 270 in co-operation with the Aero Vodochody - Boeing – Ibis Aerospace Ltd.
The first stage of the new rescue systém for the Pipistrel Panthera was completed last year and the new parachute was tested by the weight of 1645 kg. Development is going on into higher speeds,so that it will comply with the limits of this aircraft parameters.
In the end of last year the Galaxy GRS s.r.o. acquired, from the American office for patents, approval of the GRS 6 parachute patent under the number: 6/2012 Patent No.:US.997 B2 from 8.16.2012
The last year was successfully completed the rocket rescue systém GRS 4/225 for single ultralight kit gliders Altus and the single plane Viera. This year the company goes on with certification of new modifications of GRS series 6 for speeds over 370km/h and payload up to 2400kg for further categories of aircraft.
This year, after a 2 year development, was certified the rescue systém for a new category in Europe for aircraft of 120kg empty weight by the German DULV,under the designation GRS 4/240 Soft. The parachute opens at 45 kph and allowed use is up to 240 kph.The weight of systém is under 6,5 kg.
Currently is going on development and production of spin recovery parachutes for new aircarft in category Genera Aviation and parachutes for the UAV category for noted world aircarft producers of speeds up to 350 kph.
This year the Galaxy GRS s.r.o. joined the European Space program Spartan, whose aim is to conquer Mars,in collaboration with the VUT Brno. Some tests, using our systém GRS,of the landing modul Spartan are captured on our web pages.
We wish all our customers a lot of wonderful adventures hoping we will meet only in the planned service check of the GRS unit.
